To make the most of this opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland, a programme has been prepared which precedes the Smithsonian Institution’s Folklife Festival. The Rediscover Northern Ireland programme launches during the Northern Ireland Bureau’s St. Patrick’s celebration in March and finishes at the end of the Folklife Festival in July 2007.
This programme is based around the following Northern Ireland promotional themes:
- Trade and Business
- Education
- Tourism
- Food and Drink
- Arts and Culture
Culture, music, literature, poetry and drama will provide the framework and creative backdrop for these themes. The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure has a number of confirmed arts events ranging from concerts at the Library of Congress and the Phillips Collection, a visual art exhibition at the Katzen Centre, poetry at the National Geographic Society, through to community/outreach arts programmes at Georgetown University Hospital and several schools.
Each event will display Northern Ireland as a creative, confident region, playing its part on the international stage.
