Northern Ireland has such a wealth of cultural possibilities that in carrying out the research and preparing for the Smithsonian’s Festival, the Smithsonian’s Curators and local cultural experts had to marshall the areas of expertise into different themes in order to consider the possible content for the NI program at the Festival.
Program content was considered under following themes:
- Traditional Crafts
- Visual Arts
- Culinary Traditions
- Traditional Music and Performing Arts
- History and Heritage
- Trades and Occupations
- Sports and Games
These thematic areas have carried through to the final selection of participants and will also be apparent from the exhibits on the Mall. To read more about each of the participants please select a theme from the tabs at the side of this page.
