Opening Ceremony
On 27 June 2007 the Smithsonian Folklife Festival held its Opening Ceremony. Speaking on behalf of Northern Ireland were deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness and Finance Minister, Peter Robinson who was deputising for the First Minister. Their speeches were preceded and concluded by two solo performers from Northern Ireland, Jarlath Henderson playing the uilllean pipes and Robert Watt performing on the highland pipes.
