Northern Ireland on the Mall

At the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, each program area is identified by event markers in the form of  large signs. The Smithsonian has designed these specially for each program to inform visitors which section of the Mall and whose program they are visiting. Each marker contains imagery which reflects some aspects of the program and the place.

For Northern Ireland's event marker they have incorporated designs that evoke cultural, industrial and rural life. Hence there are designs reminiscent of shipbuilding cranes; flax; linen weaving; crystal cutting; fishing; yarn spinning; traditional music; story telling - CuChulainn - the Hound of Ulster; and farming.
