Craft and Design

Contemporary fine craft
Contemporary craft practice in Northern Ireland is a visual manifestation of the creativity of this confident, outward-looking region. There is a growing appreciation for the work of Northern Ireland’s finest craftspeople which stimulates reflections on tradition and re-invention, collaborative work and individual practice and the influence of traditional handmade and more contemporary technological approaches to making.
The range of practice and ambition has always been diverse and continues to be so. The sector is rich with aesthetic vision, craft skills and the application of ideas. In Northern Ireland it has been, and continues to be, a driver for design and manufacture as well as artistic critique.
